What are the limits of a visual canvas?
Complex logic, data connections, and fine-grained performance tuning are usually better solved in code. A canvas can also lead to sprawl when components and design rules are missing, with everyone designing differently. A canvas complements development and a design system, but replaces neither.
What advantage does a visual canvas offer in code-based systems?
When the canvas writes changes directly into the published codebase, the translation from mockup to implementation disappears. That reduces drift and shortens coordination between design and development. The advantage holds only if the generated code stays readable and can be reviewed through version control.
How does a visual canvas differ from a design file in Figma?
A design file shows a mockup that still has to be implemented in code. A visual canvas in a code-based system instead edits what is actually published. Both have their place: the design file suits exploring ideas, the canvas suits editing the real product.
