Figma

Figma is a collaborative platform for interface design, prototyping, design systems, and developer handoff.

Figma is a collaborative platform for interface design, prototyping, design systems, and developer handoff. Value comes from governed tokens, accessible components, clear documentation, and consistent maintenance. The concept is closely related to Design System and Design Token.

FAQ

Figma

How does Figma support accessible design?
Figma can secure accessibility early but does not replace testing in the browser. In the design file, contrast can be planned, focus states designed, and text sizes defined. Whether screen readers, keyboard operation, and semantic HTML work only becomes clear during implementation. The design should document these requirements so they are not lost.
What typical mistakes happen during handoff from Figma?
States such as hover, focus, error, or empty lists are often missing because only the ideal case was designed. Add spacing without a system, unnamed layers, and components that do not exist in code. A design without documented behavior for small screens triggers follow-up questions. Complete states and named tokens shorten alignment.
When does Figma pay off for a design system?
Figma pays off once several people or teams use the same components and changes need to be distributed centrally. Shared libraries, variables, and variants keep designs consistent. On a small site with a single designer, maintaining a library often costs more than it returns. What matters is who owns the library.
Where does Figma end and implementation in code begin?
Figma delivers designs, specifications, and prototypes, but not a production website. Implementation in Webflow, React, or Next.js translates layouts, tokens, and components into code or Designer structures. The handoff works best when both sides share the same names, spacing values, and component logic instead of merely rebuilding screens visually.
