Is an automated scan enough to implement the European Accessibility Act?
No, automated scans detect only part of the barriers, such as missing alternative text or insufficient contrast. Keyboard operation, screen reader behavior, understandable language, and logical flows require manual testing. A clean scan is an interim result, not a statement of conformity.
What technical requirements result from the European Accessibility Act?
Goals such as perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust are named, but no concrete test values. EN 301 549 and WCAG serve as references for technical implementation. How binding they are in a given case is a legal question that technology alone does not answer.
How do the European Accessibility Act and the BFSG differ?
The EAA is an EU directive that sets goals and is transposed into national law by member states. The BFSG is the German implementation and has applied since June 28, 2025. Other countries have their own laws with partly differing details. For an offering, the respective national legal framework therefore counts.
Which products and services does the European Accessibility Act cover?
Directive (EU) 2019/882 covers selected products and services, including e-commerce, certain consumer banking services, e-books, and parts of passenger transport. Exceptions exist for microenterprises regarding services. Whether a specific offering is covered must be checked case by case, and this overview is no substitute for legal advice.
